This is a beer drinker whirligig. The whirligig man would drink his beer as the wind would blow, his bottle would raise and lower. The blades that drove the gears that made him move are gone, we have added a crank handle to move the man. The man is cut out of wood and painted with a old surface, note the marble used for an eye. The beer sign is painted on tin with a nice old surface. The frame is iron as are the gears, there are oil pots on the movements to keep him operating smoothly. He is mounted on an iron stand with 11 legs, he stands very sturdy. A large amazing piece of folk art all hand made but done very well. The condition of both painted sides is very good, he must not have been outside for an extended period. The whirligig is 40 3/4″ long x 48″ tall and the wood is 7/16 thick. A piece of Folk Art or Outsider art if you will but a very interesting subject. Definitely a one of a kind piece made sometime in the early to mid 1900’s. Possibly stood outside a pub or stumble bar to entice patrons to enter.
