Please see full description for all 24 pictures and information. Schmidt Beer Mini Billboard Advertising Sign Original Art by Les Kouba -VTG RARE. This is a billboard mock-up that came out of Les Kouba’s commercial art business in Minneapolis, MN and was hand painted in watercolor by Les Kouba. It features the ice fishing scene from Schmidt Beer’s iconic outdoors series cans. This came from the estate of Walter Bush Jr but the family said it belonged to Walter Bush Sr and was a gift from Les Kouba. Walter Bush Sr and Les Kouba had a long relationship and it is my understanding that they were good friends. Both were heavily involved in Ducks Unlimited and they also wrote a book together, A Saga of Duck and Goose Hunting. Bonnie Lindberg from ASM authenticated it for me. She knew Les Kouba personally and did art shows for him at her gallery. The winner of this item will get the letter of authentication. The little billboard measures about 23 inches long and 7 & 1/2 inches tall. The folder is about 26×11 inches. It was done on Crescent 300 art board. It was originally glued into the folder but has since come loose. Everything is hand painted except for the “Stoner System” printed paper cut outs on the billboard and folder. I believe Stoner System was the billboard company. The folder shows age but it did it’s job well because the artwork is in wonderful condition. There is a little smudging, mostly on the right side, but the colors are bright and it looks incredible. You can clearly see the brush strokes in person but it was hard to capture them in the pictures. I enhanced the last picture so you can see them. You can also see the marks from an exacto knife he used to cut it into the billboard shape. This is just an awesome piece of Americana with so much going on! It’s a highway billboard, it has got fishing plus iconic beer advertising and to top it off, it is all done by Les Kouba. I don’t know when this was made but possibly 1950’s, maybe 1960’s.
