Lovers of old stuff. Sellers of adding Machines(ok maybe not). Then this is the listing for you. Double sided, painted Wood hanging sign. Adding Machines, Typewriters in bold text accompanied by 3 gold lines between words. The same is on both sides. 2 eye hooks at top (32 spacing which is optimal considering typical construction spacing) allows for easy display and just looks too cool hanging and swaying a little bit showing that patina only age can provide. This sign hung above a small repair shop next to Janke Bookstore(oldest bookstore in WI)in Wausau, WI on 3rd St. I got it from a man whose wife’s uncle was the shop owner or knew someone who was. The details were a bit murky. Unfortunately I’ve been unable to locate any pictures as that would most undoubtedly be bringing provenance to the table that would make this even that much more interesting. Regardless, it is a very cool bit of yesteryears. It’s in fair condition. Has some water staining, sat in a woodpile for many years. The shop was opened by an individual returning from world War II. This sign appeals to so many and was surprised the family didn’t show or have more interest. When speaking to the lady she mentioned the date she thought it was open until(late 50s early 60s) and she said “that’s just when he couldn’t take it anymore I think” while looking also had her husband who then both expressed facially a sense of grief or sadness and albeit brief, noticable enough. So he may have passed prematurely of an ailment or disease or unfortunately worse at his own hand. Given the horrors that these young men were a witness to. Thee atrocities they were asked to, that was required of, even forced/mandated to carry out, It would almost be understandable. Mention of him having an affinity for the drink was mentioned as well. It would be a shame for all the information I have obtained and learned, to not be told and accompany this sign as it can only assist you in your decision. Knowledge is power my friends. I mean this thing was hung in my hometown. 39 yrs I’ve lived here now so ive been My usual local outlets who would be or are interested have already exhausted their funds with me and while I would love to keep it local. I have a huge opportunity at the moment and all the more capital I can accumulate to throw at it will just be better off for me in the end. This is the “only” reason I’ve decided to let this guy go. It’s a nice, wooden, painted double sided hanger. It’s a true gem. I have personally done no resto or repair. Items receive a good wipe down with warm water, a couple drops of dawn(blue) and a hit of vinegar to help with grime. Only noteworthy damage is at the top where the paint flakes off in a chunk (2-3) but fortunately only on top and isn’t ever visible unless the sign is down. Appears to have a coat of something on it. A bit of a satin sheen. Can’t tell if it was the original final coat or added later to keep the sign up as maintenance, but it does appear to be newer than from 75yrs ago. At least in my experience facing this mainly on cracking which usually I don’t see any items past 50 years without it showing up. I believe I’ve now said everything I know about this thing and if you are now reading this you are almost finished. 25 yrs as my side hustle last year grew into my full time hustle. Without you I’d just be a guy with lots of stuff. So rest assured anything and all I do on this platform is done with that in mind. I’m incredibly blessed to be able to do what I love all day everyday and share the fun that is collecting with others who share my same passion.
