RARE Vintage Porcelain 1930’s Sign San Francisco Water Department Pulgas Temple

This porcelain sign advertising the San Francisco Water Department measures 9″ x 13″ and weighs about 1 1/2 pounds. The design is the Pulgas Water Temple. The background color is orangish yellow. The lettering is dark green. The lettering and temple are slightly raised (you can feel it with your fingertips). I do not know where it would have originally hung, but I do know that I have searched the internet and cannot find another one! Nor can I find photos of this SIGN anywhere, but photos of the Pulgas Water Temple are on the internet. Note: On the internet you will see different addresses for this temple site… Redwood City and Woodside… 56, 80, and 86 Canada Road!!!! The San Francisco Water Department (those wordings) was created March 3, 1930, under the Board of Public Works. The Pulgas (meaning “flea”) Water Temple with its Greek and Roman design was designed by architect William Merchant and built in 1938 (replacing the 1934 temporary structure). The temple was built to celebrate the completion of the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir and aqueduct across the California central valley to the Crystal Springs Reservoir. The Pulgas Water Temple was built by and maintained by the San Francisco Water District. Note: When you google Pulgas Water Temple you’ll find Redwood City OR Woodside, California as it’s location, but I called, and it. Is actually part of the city of San Mateo (but is due west of Redwood City). It is at the southeastern edge of the Crystal Springs Reservoir and can be reached from I-280 off Edgewood Road. The sign naturally shows signs of wear… Scratches, chipping of the porcelain, stains, and rust. Zoom in on the photos to examine the piece thoroughly. Vintage 1930s Art Deco Metal Electric Box Sign HOTEL with Cast Iron Wall Bracket

Large Vintage 1930s Art Deco Metal Electric Lighted Box Sign – HOTEL w/ Original Cast Iron Wall Bracket. Among all the posters, books, maps, pictures, lights, streets signs, etc was this amazing 2-sided “HOTEL” sign hanging in the garage. It was one of his favorite possessions. Tag reads – Underwriters Laboratories Electric Sign # 92873 (see pic). Very Good ++ Condition Works, but I would recommend a safety electrical inspection prior to use – Still retains the original ceramic light bulb bases. Original wiring except main power cord. Nice patina with minimal rust or damage to housing. There is some scratches, fading & weathering along lower borders of both sides (see pics). Bottom corner tips are bent but can easily be re-bent back into position. Embossed Milk Glass letters spelling (H O T E L) illuminating a beautiful glowing light from the internal bulbs (see pics). Approximate Dimensions 28in wide x 15in tall x 6in deep (without bracket). This is a RARE opportunity to own a really nice piece of Hollywood history. <<< VINTAGE NEON SIGN, SILVER DOLLAR SALOON >>>. For sale, this old saloon sign, circa 1930s-1940s. This sign is from the now defunct SILVER DOLLAR SALOON in Alvarado, CA (Union City). The building is still there but no longer operating. It’s my understanding speaking with the local Historical Society that this was one of the oldest (if not the oldest) and longest operating saloons in the area. It seems to have a colorful history; check out the attached newspaper article from 1944 about the “Pistol Pack’n Mama”. There’s also a picture of the bar with patrons enjoying a few drinks. I also have some information about the owner who happened to also own the SHELL station next door. This is all in the pictures attached, please check it out. This sign is the smallest of the group I have for sale – approximately 33 inches high, 60 inches long, and 8.5 inches wide. It’s a two sided sign. The sign has been completely rewired with new GTO wire and new transformers. All wiring is new. The original neon tubing has been repaired and is two color, red and white. The sign is dated with 1937 on the COIN face, clearly visible in the pictures. The concept of the restoration was to retain the originality but make it safe to use and hang. The sign has a simple wall plug, just plug it into a wall receptacle and you are good to go. The inside structure is good. The sign can be hanged from the top brackets, mounted from the side, or by resting on its bottom. We have lots of other neon signs, some listed already or in the works! Please see our other listings.
